Upper Washington is a $15 million development that includes 35 affordable residential units and 3,200 square feet of commercial/retail space in the Four Corners section of Dorchester. Built on one private and nine city-owned parcels of land, the project comprises 48,000 square feet. There is one four-story building and one three-story building; they include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. There is also a gym, a community room, laundry facilities in both buildings, a playground and 25 parking spaces.
Developed by the Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (Viet-Aid), it joins others in the agency’s portfolio, including Bloomfield Gardens, 19-21 Faulkner Street, 1392 Dorchester House, and 1460 House. With the goal of “building a strong Vietnamese-American community,” the not-for-profit agency also provides such programs as After School sessions, summer camp, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, child care provider instruction, Vietnamese lessons, martial arts, ballroom dancing, and more, at various locations.
At least 1,500 applications were received for this sparkling new property. Trinity Management is processing these for eventual move-in when the building is completed. Occupancy is expected in the spring/summer 2017.
