Roxbury Highlands consists of 11 historic, red brick buildings built in the first half of the 19th century that feature such desirable features as high ceilings and hardwood floors. All are in the John Eliot Historic District, which itself is within the Roxbury Highlands Historic District.

The buildings include a number of retail shops and restaurants. The MBTA Orange Line and numerous bus lines serve the area. In addition, the James P. Timilty Middle School and Roxbury Community College are nearby.

The property consists of two connected buildings on Centre Street, eight connected buildings on Highland Ave., and another building on John Eliot Square.

Roxbury Highlands has 52 apartment homes. These include 8 studio, 13 one-bedroom, 20 two-bedroom, 4 three-bedroom and 7 four-bedroom apartments. The four-bedroom apartments have 1 ½ baths.

Heat and hot water are included in the rent. There is a laundry room in each building, and apartments have well-equipped kitchens with new cabinets. Management provides 24-hour emergency maintenance service.

The John Eliot Historic District has two of Roxbury’s oldest surviving houses, The Dillaway-Thomas House and the Spooner House, as well as many beautiful Greek Revival and Italianate houses. During the Siege of Boston in 1775 General George Washington, who became the first President of the United States, mustered his troops at High Fort, also known as Highland Park Fort or Roxbury High Fort. At its summit stands Cochituate Standpipe, built in 1869, commemorating the Siege. Inquiring residents and non-residents often visit to learn about that history, and the lovely hill park is a big draw.

Given the history, the nearby cultural amenities of Boston and the convenience to public transportation, it’s perhaps no wonder that the waiting list is long. Contact management about renting opportunities.
